Zettou・Ame no Habakiri placeholder

Yes, this happens once in a while, when lyrics are beyond my abilities… But trust me when I say this, I want to know the lyrics’ meaning as much as you who are here in search of the translation for these lyrics. I’ve tried my best, and the real meaning shouldn’t deviate too much, but if you are better at ancient Japanese than I am, I sincerely hope you’d give your input! Or if your knowledge of Hinduism/Buddhism is much more than mine, do please, tell me what I have wrong >.<

(Ya-Haiya- a sorrowful night; Ya-Haiya- to heartlessness)
(Ya-Haiya-Haiya-Haiya-ie power won’t return)
(Ya-Haiya-Haiya-Haiya-ie Ame no Habakiri Yae-)

A blade that appears to slice gales, its elegance of a thousand flowers
A moon shone in the night; sadness, return to the Pure Land… for eternity

A howling, wailing battlefield, wiping the dew vainly
Memories and pride, become a clap of thunder

Please go! Kill and scatter the heartlessly burning flame in the ceremonial winds
Split the darkness, initial song of whim; wield chill and love
Unable to go now…A determination that filled my heart, questioning it of real courage
Ah, shining sword that staked all in the bond

Without complaints—nay, end as a droplet of the world

“Nothing is eternal,” now bury everything wholeheartedly
Knowing naught…but how to sever hesitation, or change resolution to teeth

I thought if I became stronger, I could someday cut, strongly… the past of the tragedy of fate
Why…why…why? I have no need for things like tears

Gush! Till this life dries out, till our collective dream is fulfilled
Without retrieving those days we played together, sanction the wildfire
Now without flying…the feather of stress you bear dances in the sky of condemnation
Let’s find out; we can’t be at the same place…that’s why

Tired of roaming—nay, meet a scarlet end

A fleeting melody of memory, smoldering gently, wafting
Looking up at the stars I swore, not to run… not to cry anymore
Ah…the two wings of Rakshasa, right now… the release of all

Please go! Kill and scatter the heartlessly burning flame in the ceremonial winds
Split the darkness, initial song of whim; wield chill and love
Unable to go now…A determination that filled my heart, questioning it of real courage
Ah, shining sword that staked all in the bond

Without complaints—nay, end as a droplet of the world
(Ya-Haiya-Haiya-Haiya-ie power won’t return)
(Ya-Haiya-Haiya-Haiya-ie Ame no Habakiri Yae-)

Kanji lyrics: http://www.kasi-time.com/item-60026.html

Well, maybe it’s coz the song is so awesome, but there is no real version on youtube. But there is a very nice instrumental version there =D

Anyhow, notes for translation (geez it’s been some time since I’ve had notes for translations):
1. “Ame no Habakiri” wasn’t translated because it’s an anime-term. I don’t translate terms that are used in the anime as proper nouns. That would be wrong, like translating “Sakura” (the name) into “Cherry” (as a name). If you want to know the meaning, you can look up the kanji as it is- other games have used the same name and people have bothered to translate it.

2. “Waga yo dare zo tsune naramu” which was translated to “Nothing is eternal” is the most interpretive line I’ve ever translated- I’ve interpreted the meaning from here. The answer actually reads: “私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが、どんなに華やかな人生でも、どんなに悲惨な人生でも、いつかは変貌し、破壊され、消滅してしまう。すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから、” which means “myself, in this world, everyone, however glamorous their life is, however tragic their life is, will someday change, be destroyed, and disappear. That is because everything is just a moment’s fantasy that did not exist in this world to begin with,” Hopefully this gives you a better idea of what the line is supposed to mean (ok fine, I admit I shortened the line to fit it into the space…)

3. Rakshasa: It took me forever to find the real name of “Rasetsu” (according to Hinduism, put in English anyway). I read from here that this God can fly, so I suppose the ‘two wings’ would not be too bizarre even though there is no mention of wings in the article… I hope I don’t offend anyone by making such assumptions, and if anyone can enlighten me (no pun intended, absolutely none) as to any grave mistakes I might have made.

Yep, those are the three most pressing notes for this translation. The problem I had with the rest of the lyrics is with the language used- the terms, conjugations. Thank goodness for Shinkenger, without which I would be totally lost.

One down…. *mountain of requests crashes down on Ice*
