Look up, now, at that north star (Polaris)

This heart has no feelings
It only retains sleepless times
I gathered earth with my two hands, but it cannot bury that person’s words
Charity itself skillfully eats into my body

Look – look – at that north star
If you open the Uranometria*
It will teach you that your dirty palm is the starting point
Search for it – search – in the cold, with your unrivaled brilliance
It’s here, faint yet without losing its coordinates*

Whose tears make up these footsteps?
Don’t get swept away by the wet ground
I will swim in countercurrent with this world’s laws
That say losing is a kind of strength;
Those were the words you said

Look – look – at that north star
When you become a legend
This constellation map will be connected by a red orb
Shine – shine – for some reason I hallucinated fireflies in midwinter
The moment this journey ends I should know the profile of this night

Bestow upon us, now, that north star
Seek the north star that aimed high

Look – look – at that north star
If you open the Uranometria
It will teach you that your soiled palm is the starting point
Search for it – search – in the cold, with your unrivaled brilliance
It’s here, faint yet without losing its coordinates

Ok it’s been a while, but here are some translation notes:
1) Uranometria – so this is a star atlas produced by this German guy called Johann Mayer in 1603 (uh according to Wikipedia), which means it has maps of stars in the skies. I’m guessing that because it’s still before the industrial revolution, making star charts was still done by sitting under the skies (most likely in a clearing, far away from civilization and light pollution) night after night to map the stars out. Thus the “dirty hands” that result from sitting in the grass and mud and everything.
2) I’m laughing at the whole Polaris never losing its coordinates thing coz that’s not exactly accurate, not in the long run. The Earth’s celestial north changes very slightly over a long time because of precession that changes the axis of spin. Not that it really matters to sailors, but astrophysicists like to be very precise.

Ok, enough geeking out about stars and astronomy from me.
